Milken Family Foundation has selected Sarah Szymanski as the 2018-19 Milken Educator Award recipient
Harrison School District Two is honored to announce that the Milken Family Foundation has selected Sarah Szymanski as the 2018-19 Milken Educator Award recipient. She will join up to 40 of America’s finest educators who received the award this year.
Educators are considered for this award by a blue-ribbon panel appointed by each state’s department of education. Without their knowledge, the Milken Family Foundation announce the recipient during assemblies held at their school. Recipients are surprised with a $25,000 cash award that they can use any way they choose.
It is unprecedented to have two Milken Family Foundation award winners in one elementary school. Sarah joins her colleague, Gina Oellig, a literacy coach who received the award in 2010.
Sarah is a second-grade math and science teacher at Soaring Eagles Elementary School. She was recognized for her relentless pursuit of best practices and innovative methods while serving as a mentor to new colleagues and student teachers in her building. She exemplifies leadership in her classroom, her building, and across the district. Her colleagues find her a go-to expert for math and literacy models and implementation. Best of all, Sarah is a great communicator who shares her enthusiasm, compassion, and knowledge with parents, students, and staff while modeling a fearless approach to personal growth for all children in her classroom.
