Centennial students receive new shoes as part of community effort

Centennial Elementary students received an exciting donation thanks to teamwork from a number of volunteers.

Each student, more than 500 in total, received a new pair of shoes from a large national shoe company Aug. 31.

More than 20 volunteers visited the school to greet students and hand them their new shoes; they had stopped by Centennial the previous week to record each student's shoe size.

Weighout Ministries helped organize the event; the group is a Colorado Springs-based organization focused on contributing to the Southeast community and building relationships with youth.

The group also collaborated with World Poverty Solutions and Elevate Lives to make it all possible.

Students were excited to meet the volunteers and receive their shoes, as organizers said they hope this event will be the kickoff to a long and positive relationship with Centennial's students.
