Transforming Teaching & Learning Scholarship awarded to Samantha Giroux of Soaring Eagles
Samantha Giroux, third grade teacher at Soaring Eagles Elementary, has been awarded a Transforming Teaching & Learning Scholarship from Capella University.
The full-tuition MEd FlexPath Scholarship is awarded to a teacher leader within a district who wishes to play a more active role in driving student achievement and impact.
Giroux will start a self-paced, competency-based MEd program over the summer.
While working on her Masters, Giroux will build and share competencies central to the success of District Two initiatives with her peers.
She also will study the impact of peer-to-peer learning on professional development.
Giroux competed for the scholarship with other District Two teachers.
Applicants answered questions about their leadership experience and goals.
Capella’s School of Education and district leadership scored qualifying applicants based on a rubric.
Giroux will join a group of TTL Scholars from across the U.S. who currently are participating in the program.
‘We are looking forward to working with Samantha,” said Dr. Amy Smith, Dean of Capella’s School of Education. "Our TTL scholars from across the country are not only dedicated to improving their own teaching but also to helping their peers learn and practice new skills. This innovative scholarship program awards them for those efforts.”
