Character Through Diversity, Challenge & Accomplishment
Sand Creek International Elementary knows what it takes to be healthy.
The school was named a 2018 Healthy School Champion, the seventh time Sand Creek International has earned the distinction.
As part of the recognition, the school was awarded $500 to fund future health efforts at the school.
Sand Creek International is one of only 47 schools in the state to be recognized, and one of two District Two schools to win the award along with Stratmoor Hills Elementary.
Healthy School Champion awards recognize schools across Colorado that promote healthy school environments and implement engaging health initiatives that support student learning.
Sand Creek hosts several wellness initiatives, including a walking classroom for students and a yoga group for staff.
Healthy School Champion Awards are presented by the Colorado Education Initiative and Colorado's Healthy Schools Successful Students program, and sponsored by the Colorado Health Foundation.
The program has given more than 315 awards and granted more than $350,000 over the past eight years in the range of $300 to $7,500 per champion.
