Character Through Diversity, Challenge & Accomplishment
Fourth graders at Monterey Elementary received a surprise visit from an Olympic athlete on April 11.
Veronica Day, who competes for Team USA in skeleton, stopped by to teach kids about her sport and talk about the importance of Olympic values.
The visit is part of an effort by the Olympic Committee education task force to spread awareness about the Olympics and Colorado Springs' role as Olympic City USA.
Students asked Day questions about competing and the basics of skeleton, and later received an autographed photo from Day.
As part of the school's partnership with the Olympic Committee, two Monterey students who demonstrate Olympic values at school will get the opportunity to tour the Olympic Training Center.
