Mountain Vista wins The Succeeds Prize and $15,000

Mountain Vista Community School was awarded the 2017 Succeeds Prize for Transformational Impact in a Middle School Oct. 3 in Denver.

The award recognizes schools that have a transformational impact on students and implement innovative practices in the classroom.

Mountain Vista, District Two’s only K-8 school, was selected from a group of three finalists in the middle school category.

MVCS also received $15,000 to fund future projects throughout the school.

Mountain Vista was recognized for practices such as its use of a ‘data wall’ to understand and formulate goals and learning strategies for students.

The school also offers AVID elective courses to support students who would be the first in their family to attend college.

It also provides Habits of the Mind report cards to each student, helping them set objective social and behavioral expectations.

The Succeeds Prize is awarded through a partnership between 9News and Colorado Succeeds, a group of Colorado business leaders working to improve education for all students.
