Wildflower Elementary wins National Blue Ribbon Award for second time

Harrison School District Two is proud to share Wildflower Elementary School’s recognition as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School.

Wildflower is one of 342 schools recognized in an announcement by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Thursday.

This is the second time Wildflower Elementary has received the honor, the first coming in 2011.

Wildflower is one of only five schools in Colorado to win this prestigious award for 2017, and the only school in Colorado Springs.

National Blue Ribbon Schools are chosen based on exceptional performance in one of two categories: Exemplary High Performing Schools and Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools.

Wildflower was recognized in the Exemplary High Performing School category for ranking in the top 15 percent of all Colorado elementary schools in its state assessments.

The school is no stranger to national recognition, having also earned National Title I Distinction in 2016 for closing the achievement gap between student groups.

This achievement also marks a significant milestone for Harrison School District Two, as Wildflower joins Soaring Eagles Elementary as a two-time winner of Blue Ribbon distinction.
