Identification Evidence
Body of Evidence
A body of evidence (BOE) is used to determine if a student meets gifted identification criteria and to build a profile of their strengths and interests. It must include both quantitative and qualitative measures.
- Quantitative assessment provides objective, numerical scores.
- Qualitative assessment provides subjective, descriptive information about attributes, characteristics, behaviors, or performance.
The BOE data is collected from multiple sources (e.g., parent/teacher input, observations) and types (e.g., achievement, cognitive ability, motivation). This evidence identifies the student's area(s) of strength and informs decisions regarding appropriate programming services.
Quantitative
- Norm-referenced test (e.g., cognitive and achievement)
- Criterion-referenced test (e.g., state assessment and curriculum-based measures
Qualitative

- Performance
- Observation
