Principal Dr. Angela Valdez
Greetings Mountain Vista Families and Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! My name is Angela Valdez and I am honored to serve as principal of this amazing campus! I am entering my 18th year in education. I spent 7 years in Denver Public Schools as a bilingual teacher, 5 years as an English language development teacher here in D2, and 5 years as the assistant principal of Pikes Peak Elementary.
My connection with Harrison School District 2 goes beyond working and teaching in this district. After my dad retired from the Army I spent my junior and senior year at Sierra High School and then graduated from there. The education I received from District 2 positioned me to not only be the first in my family to graduate with a bachelor's degree, but also to have continued my education up to the doctoral level.
Supporting students in reaching their maximum potential is our number one priority. As educator Rita Pierson said in one of her TED Talks, "every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be." That's what we strive for at Mountain Vista. We want to be that person championing for your children helping them to be the best they can be. See the video here.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband Troy (also a D2 graduate) and our 4 children who keep us on our toes. This is going to be a great year. I look forward to continued partnerships with returning families as well as forming new partnerships with our new incoming families. Please don't hesitate to come by, email, or call if you have any questions or concerns. Hablo español!
