Welcome to the 2019-2020 school-year! I am thrilled to be serving as your child’s principal and am excited to meet each of you as we begin our year together. My name is Kim Easdon, and I have worked for Harrison School District #2 for the past 19 years, 17 of which have been at Soaring Eagles Elementary. I am honored to be the Principal of Soaring Eagles where I have been fortunate to have spent the majority of my career in the capacity of teacher, literacy coach, and assistant principal. At Soaring Eagles, we believe that it takes a village to raise a child. Teachers, parents, students and administration must work together as one, with an open mind and commitment to communicate the needs of our students.
Soaring Eagles pledges to provide a secure environment that engages all learners in aspiring to realize their potential. Our instruction includes the arts, physical education, computer coding/information, Spanish, science, social studies, reading, writing, and math. Our before and after school programs vary from year to year, but include STEM activities, French, Girls Math, Journalism, intramurals, computers, art, music and much more. We require 120 minutes of literacy and 90 minutes of math instruction to ensure that students are ready for their future education once they leave SEE.
Our many awards include two National Blue Ribbons, two CDE's High Achievers Awards, four Best of the Springs, three John Irwin Awards, and a National Title 1 School. These awards are a testament to the work that our students, staff members, teachers, and administrators put in each day to meet our rigorous academic goals. In addition, for the last five years, the Colorado Department of Education has used us as a site for their Connect for Success Program. Through the CFS program, Colorado schools visit us to see the practices that make us a successful school.
Parental involvement is an integral part of our success as a school, and we invite you to participate in your child’s education in whatever way you are able. One of the cornerstones of our building is our PTO, which is a great way to network with other parents and provide the school with materials, services and morale boosters for our staff and students. For more information on PTO, please contact Opal Bentley, our assistant principal or Brandy Reel, our VIP Coordinator. If PTO isn’t your thing, we would still love for you to be involved by visiting our school, volunteering, or simply eating lunch with your student! We have an open-door policy to encourage families to get to know our building.
Please continue to browse through our website to see all that Soaring Eagles Elementary has to offer. Of course, my door is always open for you to stop in, call or email with thoughts or ideas to help make this an amazing year for you and your child.
As our three daughters are grown, my husband Kelly and I are enjoying our new phase of life and watching our family grow. In recent years, we have been joined by two wonderful sons-in-law, two handsome grandsons, and a beautiful granddaughter. Kelly and I keep our house busy with our two Whoodles (a fancy word for “expensive mutts”), Scooter and Max. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, running, hiking and playing with my rambunctious grandchildren.
