Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Jill Bishop

Greetings from the art room Turman Friends and Family and Happy New School Year! My name is Jill Bishop, and this is my 20th year teaching in Harrison School District and my FIRST year at Turman elementary. I am so happy to join the Turman family and to have a new creative adventure with the talented Turman students.

Now a few things about me. I am passionate about travel. Although my overseas plans were sidelined by Covid 19 this summer I did take a fantastic road trip to North Carolina to spend time in the Smoky Mountains and on the coast. Hiking/backpacking is one of my favorite pass times. Last summer I finished backpacking the last 110 miles of the 485-mile-long Colorado Trail. Good golly we live in a BEAUTIFUL state! My summer took me a little further from my traditional art media as I started exploring the world of furniture restoration and repurposing. I would love to hear about the creative endeavors of your summer!

First quarter will bring lots of creativity and artistic opportunity to Turman’s young artists. Our AMAZING new Kindergarteners will be learning about various lines and primary colors (Red, Yellow, Blue! I love you!). Art based on the works of Paul Klee using geometric shapes will be the big first project for first graders. Second graders will be learning about, and experimenting with, space and details in their creation of a still life. Third grade will learn about different styles of art, starting with the creation of an abstract self-portrait. Fourth graders will be deconstructing landscapes, using size to create depth. Meanwhile, fifth grade will be creating block prints focusing on ways to emphasize their focal point.

Keep your eyes on the walls of Turman for the amazing creations of your young artists.

See you in the art room! ~Jill Bishop, Art Teacher
