Virtual Reality for the Classroom

  • Virtual Reality (VR) is an interactive computer-generated or picture generated experience that incorporates visual and auditory senses. VR allows users to be immersed in an environment that can seem very realistic or be fantastical.

VR allows teachers to take their students beyond the classroom walls by introducing immersive virtual field trip explorations around the world, to the solar system, throughout the human body, and more.

    flow chart

  • Each elementary school will be allowed to check out one classroom set of VR headsets for a week, Tuesday-Thursday. They will be delivered to the school on Mondays and MUST be ready to pick up from the school by Friday at noon. The school will need to determine when each teacher gets the classroom set, but the teacher MUST be trained before allowed to use it in the classroom. To ensure that all schools and students have equal opportunities to use the VR system, please do not book the headsets more than once every 7 weeks, unless otherwise approved.

Google Expeditions

  • Google Expeditions is an immersive education app that allows teachers and students to explore the world through over 800 virtual-reality (VR) and 100 augmented-reality (AR) tours. You can swim with sharks, visit outer space, turn the classroom into a museum, and more without leaving the classroom.

Teachers and students use mobile devices and VR viewers to virtually explore an art gallery or museum, swim underwater, or navigate outer space, without leaving the classroom.

*Note: if using the Lenovo Classroom Headsets, the headsets will be standalone and will have more clarity than Google Cardboard, as seen in the video on the right.
