Dress Code

  • Kindergarten - 8th grade students  

    • Polo shirts and collared dress shirts plain/no logos, in navy blue, light blue, white, or red. No other colors allowed. Spirit wear is permitted. 
    • Pants or shorts: khaki or navy blue, unadorned blue or black jeans acceptable (no holes or tears) 
    • In addition to khaki, navy blue pants and shorts, and unadorned black or blue jeans, girls may wear capris, shorts, and skirts no shorter than three inches above the knee in khaki or navy blue. Girls may also wear navy blue or khaki jumpers. Leggings may be worn under skirts and jumpers. 

    Shoes: 

    • Any closed toed shoes, including athletic shoes, are acceptable.  

    In General: 

    • Jackets, sweaters, and hooded sweatshirts are allowed, but no hoods are to be worn in the school building 
    • Jewelry that presents a safety hazard, contains drug, alcohol or gang symbols or messages, or causes distraction in the classroom may not be worn 
    • Hats are not allowed to be worn in the building 
    • Sunglasses are not allowed to be worn in the school building 
    • Sagging will not be permitted 
    • Facial piercings may be required to be removed due to safety concerns  
    • Tattoos are required to be covered 
    • No face painting of any kind will be permitted 
    • Dress code will be enforced on "special" days such as Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick's Day etc. and no "costumes" or holiday attire is allowed, unless very specifically decreed by administration 

    Enforcement: This is a shared responsibility with the student, parent, and school staff. MVHSA Staff will make every attempt to enforce the standards set forth. If violations occur, a parent or guardian will be contacted to determine next steps which could include providing optional clothing choices. 

    9th - 12th grade students

    • Apparel advertising tobacco, alcohol, illegal substances, and/or offensive slogans is not acceptable attire at school or school-sponsored activities. Clothes with sexual innuendos are not permitted.  
    • The wearing of clothing, jewelry, or a style of grooming that is identified with membership in a gang will not be tolerated in school or at any school-sponsored activity. 
    • Clothing must be clean, in good repair, and free of holes (no skin visible). 
    • No undergarments should be visible under any garment. 
    • Clothing deemed likely to cause disruption of the educational process is not permitted. 
    • No face painting of any kind is allowed. 
    • The final decision as to the safety and suitability of the clothing, hair, or jewelry will be left to the principal or designee. 

    For Ladies:  

    Tattoos and Piercing:  

    • Tattoos must be covered at all times. 
    • No intentionally created marks should be visible on the skin. 
    • Facial piercings may be required to be removed or covered due to safety concerns.  

    Makeup and Nail Polish: 

    • Makeup must be natural; no unusual or disruptive colors, such as black lipstick.  

    Pants/Bottoms: 

    • Pants may be any color and must fit appropriately.  
    • Jeans ok, but must fit the waistline. Ultra-low-rise waistlines are not permitted. 
    • No sagging, extremely large, or extremely tight pants or shorts.  
    • Shorts, skirts, and skorts must be no shorter than three inches above the kneecap.  
    • Leggings and tight-fitting stretch pants may not be worn as pants. These items are permitted if worn with a skirt or dress. 
    • No sweatpants, yoga, pajama, or jersey(t-shirt) fabric pants permitted. Track pants/warm-up pants in good repair are allowed. 
    • No athletic shorts, spandex, or tight fitting shorts. Shorts must be no more than three inches above the kneecap. 

    Dresses:  

    • Must cover at least three inches of the shoulder. 
    • Cannot be any shorter than three inches above the knee cap. 

    Shirts:  

    • Shirts must fit appropriately. 
    • No over-sized or extremely tight shirts.  
    • No low-cut apparel of any kind is allowed. No visible cleavage.  
    • No tank tops, spaghetti strap tops, or tops with less than three inches of shoulder coverage are permitted. 
    • A tank top or spaghetti strapped top may be worn with a blouse, sweater, or blazer over it. 
    • No midriff shirts. No skin should be visible between the bottom of the shirt and the top of the pants, shorts, skort, or skirt.  
    • Designs and patterns are permissible as long as they are appropriate in nature (to be determined by the administration).  
    • Sweaters, hoodies, and sweatshirts are allowed. However, no hoods are to be worn in the building at any time.

    • Shoes required at all times. 
    • No slippers or flip flops. 
    • Hats and hoods not permitted to be worn in the building.  
    • Sunglasses not permitted to be worn in the building. 

    For Gentlemen:

    Pants/Bottoms: 

    • Pants and/or jeans may be any color and must fit appropriately (fit at the waist and not sag in the crotch).  
    • No sagging, extremely large, or extremely tight pants or shorts.  
    • No sweatpants, pajama, and jersey(t-shirt) fabric pants. Track pants/warm up pants in good repair are permitted. 
    • No athletic shorts, spandex, or tight fitting shorts.  
    • Pants must be in good repair with no holes (no skin visible). 
    • Shorts must fit the waistline and not sag in the crotch.  
    • The shorts must no shorter than four inches from the top of the kneecap. 

    Shirts:  

    • Shirts must fit appropriately. 
    • No over-sized or extremely tight shirts (t-shirts are ok); no holes or tears.  
    • Shirts must have sleeves. 
    • No midriff shirts. No skin should be visible between the bottom of the shirt and the top of the pants. 
    • Designs and patterns are permissible as long as they are appropriate in nature (to be determined by the administration).  
    • Sweaters, hoodies, and sweatshirts are permitted. However, no hoods are to be worn in the building at any time.
